Kentucky State Police are investigating a shooting that left a Clay County man critically injured early Saturday morning.
Troopers from KSP Post 11 in London responded to a shots-fired complaint around 2 a.m. on Portersburg Road in Manchester. According to investigators, a caller reported that a family member was threatening relatives at the home before multiple gunshots were heard.
When troopers arrived, they found 23-year-old Jeremy Oliver of Manchester suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. He was treated at the scene, transported to St. Joseph Hospital in London, and later transferred to the University of Kentucky Albert B. Chandler Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
State Police say their preliminary investigation indicates Oliver had gone to his parents’ residence while intoxicated and became involved in a verbal argument that escalated into the shooting. Family members reportedly attempted to take him to the hospital before emergency responders arrived.
The investigation remains ongoing.
