Governor Andy Beshear and Congressman Hal Rogers have announced $6.6 million in federal Abandoned Mine Land Economic Revitalization funding for water and wastewater projects in Eastern Kentucky.
The Knott County Water and Sewer District will receive $2.1 million to expand the Ball Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant, more than doubling its capacity to support new housing and economic development in Knott and Perry counties.
The City of Campton in Wolfe County will receive $4.5 million to extend drinking water service to the Red River Gorge area, improving water access for more than 2,000 households and 25 businesses while supporting tourism and future growth.
State officials say additional AMLER grant awards are expected later this year.
