ELKHORN CITY, KY. (July 1, 2025) – The Kentucky State Police Pikeville Post received a 911 call regarding a shooting in the Elkhorn City community of Pike County on Monday, June 30, 2025.
KSP troopers responded to West 5th Street, where they discovered a male subject had been shot. The initial investigation revealed George Standifur, 44 years old of Elkhorn City, entered a residence on West 5th Street while armed with a firearm, and made threats toward the homeowner and his family. The homeowner discharged a firearm, striking Standifur. Standifur was forced out of the residence and later located by troopers in an alley near the home, while still armed. Troopers engaged in negotiations with Standifur for several hours before taking him into custody. He was transported to a nearby hospital where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
As a result of this investigation, George Standifur was arrested and lodged in the Pike County Detention Center. Standifur is currently charged with Murder (Attempt), Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree- Police Officer, Terroristic Threatening 3rd Degree, Resisting Arrest, Disorderly Conduct 2nd Degree, Menacing, and Alcohol Intoxication in a Public Place.
