A Martin County High School teacher is the recipient of the KCTCS Pathfinder of the Year award.
Taylor Slone, a math instructor at the school, was presented the award during a ceremony in the school’s auditorium on Tuesday morning.
Dr. Denise King and recruiter Melinda Lynch presented the award along with other BSCTC team members.
Winners of the Pathfinder of the Year award are selected by a panel of judges based on the following criteria:
- Encouraged student(s) to attend a KCTCS college,
- Assisted student(s) in identifying a career and postsecondary path,
- Provided mentorship and/or
- Maintained contact with student(s).
The student who nominated Slone said in a nomination letter: “After having her as a teacher, I realized that the world needs more educators like herself and that’s what I want to be!”
Slone was surprised by the award presentation. She tells us: “My goal when I come here every day is to show up for these kids in a way that they would be able to say that about me now and in years to come.”
