The U.S. Department of Agriculture is reporting that one in every five kids in Kentucky don’t know where their next meal is coming from.
Data released by Kentucky Youth Advocates revealed that households in Appalachia are struggling, with over 25 percent of households living with food insecurity.
Johnson County is 25.4 percent, Pike County with 27.7 percent, Martin County has 29.3 percent, Floyd County with 30.8 percent, Knott County at 31.2 percent and Letcher and Magoffin counties have 35.8 percent of households dealing with food insecurity.
Terry Brooks, the executive director for Kentucky Youth Advocates, said, “Over 100,000 kids wake up living in deep poverty.”
