Severe Storms Reported Across East Kentucky Tuesday

Severe Thunderstorms roared through Eastern Kentucky this morning with strong winds an dangerous lightning causing sporadic power outages and damage.

The Paintsville Independent Schools dismissed school at 1:00pm.

WYMT reported Boyd County Emergency Management said wind gusts hit 102 miles per hour at one point.

In Lawrence County, officials said a powerline, a telephone line and a few trees were knocked down as well as the Louisa Volunteer Fire Department said they were responding to a home on where a tree landed on the house with people inside of it.

Tomorrow is the 50th anniversary of the second-largest tornado outbreak on record for a single, 24-hour period in the commonwealth, with 30 F4/F5 tornadoes killing 70 and produced widespread damage across Kentucky.
