Two people, including a corrections officer, have been formally charged with crimes after an incident at the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center this past Friday.
Court documents alleged that 39 year old Joseph Harris, of Inez, came to the jail with another person to pick up his brother-in-law, 27 year old Officer Sebastian Stewart, from work.
At some point, a fight broke out on the jail property, dring which Stewart struck Harris.
The incident was recorded on video.
Paintsville Police arrested Harris and charged him with assault and public intoxication.
Stewart was then arrested a few days later on a warrant from the case.
Jail administrator say Stewart’s arrest came from an investigation conducted by the jail’s internal affairs officer.
He has since been suspended from his job at the jail.
